water 

We all take it for granted, it will be there when we turn on the shower, to fill our glasses, to flush our toilets - but for many it is not there.

As most of you know I’m usually training for something and my cause is to have some fun and stay in shape.  Last year while training for the Chicago Marathon I met a great group of people who were running for a simple cause - water.  Their goal was to raise enough money for to bring water to a small town in Africa.

This year I decided to join Team World Vision and their cause and hopefully help me deal with one of my own. We all take a lot of things for granted, things as basic as water and friendship. You turn on the faucet or pick up the phone and it will be there.

I lost one of my dearest friends earlier this year unexpectedly.

I took for granted that he would always be there.

I am running the NYC marathon this year with Team World Vision - helping to raise money once again to bring water to a town in Africa but I will also be running for Rob, I will be matching 10% of what I raise for Team World Vision and donating it to the Robert Licata Scholarship Fund established by Hofstra University.

I know times are tough so anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated - if you can’t that’s ok, but promise me you will share a glass of water with a friend and never take either for granted.

Rob and his wife Paula were there 20 years ago when I crossed the finish line of my first Triathalon - although he was too busy eating a bagel to notice I finished - I know he will be watching this time as I cross the finish line on Nov 1st.
