This year is a sad one for my dog-loving family and friends but we hope by helping homeless dogs we can smile through our tears. I'm raising money in memory of my brother's family's dogs, Sunshine and Shadow and for a co-worker's beloved Dalmatian. Sunshine and Shadow lived with Ed and his family for over 12 years and, as is often the case, you seldom know how interwoven our pets become in our lives until they cross the Rainbow Bridge. Sunshine was your typical, happy and beautiful Golden Retriever, while Shadow looked like a tough guy of mixed ancestry (but definately an Aussie in the mix!). No one could outdo Shadow in playing Frisbee! They came to the family at different times and had to adjust to each other, but their names should have told us they were fated to be best buds! Sudden illness took them quickly withn a few weeks of each other, giving us a double, heart-rending loss. Our only consolation was they were together and healthy on the other side of the Bridge, waiting to reunite with their family.
Reagan, the Dalmatian Diva, was quite the pretty, pampered pooch and ruled her family with a determined, albeit loving, iron paw. Beautiful and demanding, like most divas, she set the standard for Dalmatians and her family's behavior. Reagan fought long and hard to stay until she was sure she was leaving her family in good paws with her understudy, Dottie. When she knew Dottie was "up to snuff" she crossed the Rainbow Bridge with the dignity she always possessed.
I know this is a rough time to ask for your help, with most of us hard-pressed for extra money for anything. If you've still got your home and family together, including your pets, won't you please consider giving just a little for the newly homeless animals given up by their families because they can't afford to care for them any more? No amount is too small and EVERY amount is very appreciated.
In honor and memory of Sunshine, Shadow, and Reagan, lets help some homeless dogs and give them new hope and families!
