Service Dogs Change Lives for Maddie and Zeke
Join us on an incredibly important journey
A Journey to CHANGE LIVES
PAWS FOR A CAUSE
Who: We are Maddie and Zeke Stanberry-Beall. We are eleven year old twins who live in Rochester, New York. We both have Asperger's Syndrome, which is part of Autism Spectrum Disorder. That means that we have incredibly cool brains that are different from most people's. And that means that we have a bumpy road a lot of times in the regular world. We have each been hoping for a service dog for years.
We live with our mom, Jenny, our dad, Michael, and our seven year old twin sisters, Francesca and Zela. Last year, we moved to a huge old farmhouse in Fairport, and now we have a giant yard, fruit trees and a garden, a creek, and a barn. So far, we have a cat, a rabbit, and seven chickens. We are so excited that we are finally going to get our dogs.
Here's what our mom and dad say: "The Stanberry-Beall family, together with Wilderwood Service Dogs, invites YOU to be a part of a journey to forever change the lives of two children, Maddie and Zeke, and our family."
How: In order to get our dogs, part of our job is to fundraise to support Wilderwood Service Dogs (www.wilderwood.org), which is the nonprofit organization that is training our dogs. Swinging is one of our favorite activities, and we decided to use our swings to raise money.
In October, we held a Swing-A-Thon, during which our family and friends showed just how much we want these dogs by swinging for six straight hours. Thank you to everyone who supported us in this!
Upcoming Events: With the generous support of the Rochester Rotary Club, a miniature golf tournament will be held on
Sunday, June 3, 2012
Come share in the festivities!
Where: At the Sunshine Campus in Rush, NY
Join us in a virtual swing, from your favorite putt putt course, or even from a "real" golf course!
Why: These dogs will help us:
(1) Stay Safe
(2) Stand on Our Own
(3) See the World
We have been waiting and planning for our dogs for years. We know they will help us stay safe and still let us get space from Mom and Dad; help us have people friends and mostly be our special dog friend; and even help us feel comfortable so we can travel to see all of our family far away, and maybe even Disney World! We've made a short video explaining why we want our dogs.
[parents' note]: You may have questions about the journey from puppyhood to life as a service dog. Wilderwood works with many different breeds, and hand matches the dog to each individual when creating a working team. Each dog is trained for 18 months before placement. Training, care and upkeep for the dogs costs this nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency $1100 per month, per dog. Our family's commitment to raising funds supports the mission of the organization, and ensures that service dogs will be available for future clients.
