Years ago in Public School classrooms throughout our country, our tax dollars provided the supplies kids needed to learn. With budget constraints, schools have now effectively transferred the burden of providing school supplies to the parents of students. Anyone who has kids in school, knows all about school lists. They seem to get longer and longer each year, and more expensive to purchase.
For those parents that can afford it, that’s fine. For the children of less fortunate families, this means that they arrive at school without the tools they need to learn. It is humiliating and demoralizing for these children and the quality of the education they receive is negatively impacted.
Should a child receive a lower quality K-12 education because their household’s budget can’t support the purchase of school supplies? I, and those of us dedicated to the cause of this foundation, say "NO".
The more than two dozen Kids In Need resource centers around the country, funded entirely by charitable donations, work hard every day to provide teachers with a local venue to access free school supplies for the “high needs” children in their classrooms.
