In January of last year, Haiti was hit with a catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Already the poorest people in the western hemisphere, Haitians have struggled to rebuild their shattered lives.
This November, a group of Habitat for Humanity Omaha volunteers will be joining 400 other volunteers from across the U.S. to build homes in Leogane, Haiti. I feel privileged to be part of the Omaha group. Legoane was at the very epicenter of the earthquake where more than 80 percent of the buildings were damaged or destroyed. Tens of thousands of Haitians were left homeless.
But with hope, determination and help from organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Leogane and the rest of Haiti is rising from the rubble. There is a better future ahead.
Our Omaha team hopes to raise additional funds to support the rebuilding in Haiti. Please consider donating through this website. It is simple, fast and secure. Any contribution will be deeply appreciated.
All donations are sent directly to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha by FirstGiving, who will email you a printable record of your donation.
Habitat for Humanity, the Haitian people and I thank you for your support.
