TIME IS RUNNING OUT - - I have until November "08 to reach my fundraising goal!  Won't you please help me.

My name is Donna and for most of my life I have been coping with the physical limitations that myasthenia gravis has put on my life. MG is a chronic incurable muscle weakening disorder with no known cause or cure.  Being diagnosed with myasthenia was life changing.  It is a disorder that limits the normal functions of daily living such as brushing your hair, walking steps, speaking clearly, chewing, swallowing, and sometimes even breathing.  Symptoms vary in each person in different ways.  And that's why - - having Myasthenia Gravis SUCKS! !

My personal story of survival is a long one spanning over 40 years, full of  doctors and hospitals, treatments and medications, disappointments and accomplishments.  With the support of family, friends and a terrific medical team, I try hard not to dwell on the things that I cannot do because of this illness - - it's the things I CAN do that fulfill my life.   I have survived this illness and it's many ups and downs, I  have gained self-confidence and personal independence.  Yet I continue to struggle every day and have learned to cope with the many limitations that this disorder has injected into my life, and I have tried to keep the smile (such as it is) on my face while keeping the fears and the tears away.  

Through volunteering and my current position as Administrative Coordinator for MGA of Western Pennsylvania,  I have formed lasting friendships and been able to help others through my experiences of living with this illness.  The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA has the largest Treatment Center primarily serving those with myasthenia gravis and their families here in the tri-state area and across the country.  Your donation, no matter how small, will help   MGA to  continue supporting, informing, and caring for other people like me who have been diagnosed with this disorder.  Having a chronic illness means a lifetime of transition and learning how to cope.   Knowing that there are people like you that care and understand the problems that we may face makes it that much more bearable.
