We are walking 75 minutes or laps to honor Save the Children's more than 75 years of service to children, an anniversary they celebrated in 2007. The reason we have the longer distance is to recognize and show solidarity with the long distances walked by refugees. There are hundreds of refugee camps in and around Darfur, and according to a United Nations surveyor a couple of years ago, the average distance that women walk to get firewood is 10 miles each way. 75 1/4 mile laps is roughly the same distance.
Walk with us. Make a donation at the event or download the Walkathon Pledge Sheet and ask everyone you know to sponsor you. You will find instructions on the Pledge Sheet on what to do with the money you collect, and on the reverse is the basic information about our School in Sudan effort.
Please join us for a memorable day with your family and friends! We’ve got a school to build!
