Anchorage for Orphans!
Two cyclists, Eddie D’Agostino and John Romano have recenly completed a tandem bicycle trip from Oberlin, Ohio to Anchorage, Alaska to raise money for an orphanage in Santa Apolonia, Guatemala!!
The orphanage, known as Los Hogares de Santa Maria de Guadalupe, was founded in 1985 by the School Sisters of St. Francis with the initial purpose to care for children who became homeless during the civil war in Guatemala. Many of the orphaned and abandoned children who come to the orphanage have had little or no formal education and often suffer from severe malnutrition.
Today, 100 children are cared for at Guadalupe Homes, which is comprised of eight simple houses (hogares). The children live in family groups with tias (aunts) who care for them.
Eddie volunteered and visited at the orphanage in the summer of 2007 and was quite moved by the experience.
John and Eddie have travelled by tandem bike once before; from Ohio to California to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer.
Though they have completed their 4000 mile journey, they are seeking your help in contributing to their current cause.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated and will certainly make a significant impact on the life of “the niños,” no matter the size of the donation.
