Helping Kids Read to Succeed 2011
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I have been a volunteer for Page Ahead Children’s Literacy Program for years, because I believe literacy support for our at-risk kids can change their course in school and beyond.
Studies show that if children can read at grade level by third grade, they continue to read at grade level throughout their academic career. Sounds easy, but thousands of kids are behind by then, and most will never catch up. Learning to read takes practice, just like learning to play the piano, or play a sport.
That's where Page Ahead comes in. We provide new books and literacy services to at risk children across Washington State so that they can practice reading and keep up at school. Page Ahead has given away over 2 million books over the years to give these kids the tools they need to practice the most important academic skill - reading.
Donating through this website is simple, fast, and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. And if you're wondering what value a book has, just ask some of the kids Page Ahead serves:
Thank you for giving us two books. Books are better than food. And I love food! - Carley
...I'm still reading it night and day and at school. Some times I hide it so my big brothers won't steel it. Some times I lose it and say where in the world is my book? So far the book is good. Never mind I mean fantastict. - Mojes
Thank you Page Ahead. I got a book today. I like it. It is just right for me. - Anna
I am sincerely grateful for any level of support. Thanks a million!
