On April 16th of 2012 my friend, teacher and advertising mentor passed away due to the complications of Huntington's Disease. After a long and corageous battle with the disease Marc finally lost the fight.

Marc Van de Kerckhove was a great man. Marc was a man of few but poignant words (Shut Up and Write!). Marc was an important man. He inspired every great senior art director and copywriter that my country had to offer, including myself. There was a time before Marc, and a time after Marc. He truly had a gift of prepping young creative minds for the Mad Men business. I feel blessed to have been part of the group that was taught by Marc, right before his disease took over and kept him from doing what made him happiest in life: teaching.
Last year, when I crossed the finish line of my first Marathon, I promised myself to never run one again. On April 16th this changed. In honor of Marc and in support of the many people suffering from Huntington's Disease, I have decided to run the NY Marathon on November 4th, 2012 and raise funds for the Huntington Disease Society of America.
I humbly ask you to give a lot if you can, spare a little or just do whatever is possible. It's tax deductible, anyway. I have pledged to raise a minimum of $3,000 by November 4th so all help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for supporting this great cause and thanks Marc for being such an inspiration to myself and the many creative professionals I know and admire.
Tom
