In Memory of Tonka
In March of 1999, GABR took in a very special group of Bassets - three 8 week old pups and their parents. A product of a backyard breeder that got in over her head, these dogs were all in need of veterinary care and food. Jeanne and I agreed to foster the three puppies and one of them never left our house: Tonka.
Tonka had a very rough start - kept in a basement for the first 8 weeks of his life, he was malnurished and scared. Thanks to GABR we were able to give Tonka the care he needed and a great new life.
Throughout his life, Tonka was a great ambassador for the breed. Although he was a conformation nightmare, he had the heart and soul that makes the Basset Hound such an adored breed. He loved to "work" the Pet Expo every spring and "woo, woo" his way into people's hearts.
Tonka attended all but the first Waddle (because he wasn't born yet). We lost Tonka last fall to a very quick and aggressive cancer. Although, Tonka won't be there in body, his spirit will be Waddling with us. All of the money we raise will be in his name and will go to help other dogs live long and happy lives.
Guardian Angel Basset Rescue is having it's annual Waddle on September 18th and 19th. Won't you please help Tonka continue his work? We are counting on your support!
