2011 New York City Marathon
Dear Friends,
Having just graduated from law school in May, I spent the last two months studying day and night for the NY bar exam. The bar prep program I took frequently referred to the studying process as a marathon, and they were right -- except for the fact that there was absolutely nothing enjoyable about the final event, and 'training' had the opposite effect of endorphin production. After surviving this academic marathon, I could not be happier to return to the far more rewarding physical version, and I welcome the opportunity to once again support the Touch Foundation through my sweat, blisters and assorted strained body parts.
As many of you know, I spent two years working for Touch before law school, and my belief in the value of Touch's work in Tanzania remains as strong as ever. Over the past eight years I have lived and worked in various countries in Africa and Southeast Asia, and across these diverse settings ridden with developmental challenges, one thing stands out: a basic, functioning health system is essential for economic development and the promotion of human dignity. Too many countries lack this critical foundation.
Touch is addressing this grave deficiency by getting to the root of the problem and pursuing sustainable solutions instead of temporary band-aids. It is a cause, and a methodology, that I am honored to support.
I have had the privilege of running the NYC marathon for Touch for the last two years, and with the incredible support of over 100 donors, I have raised over $20,000 to support Touch's work training doctors and medical personnel in Tanzania. This overwhelming generosity is humbling and inspiring, and I am truly honored to be taking on this great challenge once again.
As I stock up on band aids and power gel to hit the pavement these next few months, I hope you will help me support the great work of this organization. Every single dollar makes a difference. Thank you and please forward this freely!
Eliza
