Dear Friends and Family,
If you know me, you know that running has been an important part of my life for many years! This year, I've decided to run the Chicago Marathon and have partnered with World Vision to raise money that will go towards humanitarian service projects in Africa. Projects such as providing safe drinking water to families and children, and supplies for AIDS relief work.
In my work I come across very needy families every day, but as I watched the World Vision video (below left) and read about these people, I am reminded that I cannot even begin to imagine the difficulties they experience. These thoughts and images have been present with me as I train for the marathon. I find myself being grateful for the many gifts I receive every day, home, food, family, friends, legs that take me where I want to go; things that I take for granted. When I am tired after running 6 miles, I think of the children who walk that very same distance EACH DAY just to get water! Children who cannot go to school because they are simply trying to survive.
I'm excited about the marathon and I'm excited about the opportunity to do a small part to help those in need. To do this I need your help. I'll do the running, and if you are able, would you consider making a tax deductible donation to this cause? Regardless and most importantly, I could use your prayers in the weeks to come and especially on the October 11th. (lower temperatures than last year would surely be appreciated!).
Thank you!
Eli
