Hello family and friends,
First of all, thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read my story and hopefully understand a little bit about me and why I am doing this. I have made it a personal mission to support and gain awareness for the Boomer Esiason Foundation and after reading the below - you will hopefully understand why. For a long time now I have wanted to seriously get involved with a charity and give back in a good way. I struggled with what exactly my calling was but then one day it hit me.
My Story...
I'd like to tell you a little bit about the man in the photo, George Miltner. As many of you know, I lost my dad suddenly this past March. My dad and I had an unwavering relationship. He did everything for me. He was my rock and my biggest supporter. He was kind, loving, a provider for his family, dedicated, loyal, caring, compassionate, and the best man I have ever known. When I was younger, he never missed a soccer game, a track meet, even a dance recital (yes, I was a little ballerina - who knew!). When I moved out and went off to college, he surprised me several times with food, love and hugs. I could call him at all hours of the night and tell him I needed something and never doubted he would be there within the hour. When I graduated and got my job at Spike TV, he was genuinely proud of me and I could see it written all over his face. He knew my dreams were coming true. I just hope he knows he is a big part of the reason why they did.
About the cause...
The Boomer Esiason Foundation is making a difference for those who suffer from Cystic Fibrosis and they need our help. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
Merging Stories...
As you probably are aware, I am a die hard Jets fan and I got that from my dad. Every Sunday from when I was able to understand the game of football, him and I would watch the games together. Cheering, laughing, yelling, mostly crying; it didn't matter because we did it together. When I was a little girl, my dad gave me the nickname of "BOOMER" after Boomer Esiason, his favorite Jets player of all time. I will never forget that and all the Jets games that we spent watching together. So, that is why I have decided to do this.
My Goal...
My goal for the Boomer Esiason Foundation is to raise awareness and $5,000. It is a way for me to honor my dad and help a charity that is doing good for all those who suffer from cystic fibrosis.
This March, I plan on running for the cause in the Queens Half Marathon followed by the New York City Marathon in 2013.
THANK YOU...
I can't tell you how much your support would mean to me as I journey down this road of fundraising, training, and honor. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have ALL done for me up until now. It is my turn to give back and I appreciate the support as I run for a cause.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Ellie
