In lieu of gifts for his 50th birthday, Chas Edelstein has invited guests to make a contribution to two of his important charities, Junior Achievement and Teach for America. These two organizations help fulfill Chas’ lifelong commitment to education. We are asking guests to make a monetary donation that will be split evenly between both Junior Achievement and Teach for America. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
About Junior Achievement and Chas Edelstein’s leadership
The mission of Junior Achievement is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Chas was a teacher in the Junior Achievement program and continues his commitment to financial literacy by serving on the JA board for over a decade. Chas provides personal support of Junior Achievement as well as financial support through his company, where he also encourages his employees to volunteer. He has also established the Chas Edelstein scholarship awarded to incoming students of the University of Illinois who have participated in JA Chicago. Gifts to support Junior Achievement will help reach over 390,000 Chicago-area youth in 2009-2010, with programs focusing on work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. About Teach for America and Chas Edelstein’s leadership
Teach For America's mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting some of our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort. In the short term, Teach for America asks outstanding recent college graduates to teach for at least two years in low-income communities. During their two-year commitment, the organization supports the teachers as they go above and beyond traditional expectations in order to meaningfully narrow the achievement gap for their students. In the long term, with the insight and conviction gained during their teaching commitments, alumni of the program go on to become life-long leaders and advocates for educational equity. Chas sits on the Teach For America – Chicago board, and participates in their Sponsor A Teacher program. Through the University of Phoenix, he supports the Back to School Bash and Annual Chicago Benefit Dinner, as well as the Teach for America efforts in Phoenix and San Francisco.
