Project ECHO/Santa Monica HS New York Competition Fund

Project ECHO/Santa Monica HS New York Competition Fund

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page to help Project ECHO students at Santa Monica High School travel to New York , May 24-27, to compete in a national competition!

Our talented young entrepreneurs from  Santa Monica High School won the California State Tournament for SAGE (Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship), an international program that promotes entrepreneurship education and community service projects.

We hope to raise $5,000 through this email campaign, in order to send the entire Santa Monica High School SAGE team to New York for the competition.  If we can get 200 people to donate $25 each, we will reach our target.  Remember, EVERY dollar counts!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

About the SAGE Team at Santa Monica High School

Students from the Project ECHO class at Santa Monica High School , which is part of the Regional Occupational Program (ROP), operate and manage two on-campus businesses – the Vikes’ Inn and Café.

A group of nine students from the Project ECHO class and other ROP classes have joined forces to participate in SAGE (Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship), an international program that promotes entrepreneurship education and community service projects.

Criteria to compete in the SAGE competition include: operating an existing for-profit business venture, launching a new business venture, creating a social venture, environmental stewardship, promoting global awareness and civic engagement.

Part of the profits from the Project ECHO student-run businesses go towards student scholarships and help fund their community service projects.

Last year, Santa Monica High School participated in the SAGE program and won the 2006 SAGE World Cup in .  On Saturday, April 28, the Santa Monica SAGE team won the California SAGE tournament (the state-level competition).  If the team wins the national competition in New York, they will advance to the 5th Annual SAGE World Cup in Odessa , on July 31 to August 4.

What is SAGE?

Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) is an international organization whose mission is to advance ethical business practices, social responsibility, civic engagement and environmental awareness worldwide through high-school level youth participation in entrepreneurship and community service.  Under the direction of university student mentors/business consultants, youth use their school learning to become self-reliant, create wealth, and help others. At the end of each academic year, the SAGE teams participate in an interscholastic tournament to determine which teams were most effective.  For more information, visit the SAGE website at http://www.csuchico.edu/sage.
