Juan Carlos Fernandez and Paul D. Carey
Thank you to all our friends and family for joining in celebrating our marriage.
This has been a long journey for us. We met in September of 2000 through mutual colleagues and became fast friends. Living on different sides of the continent, we did not get to see each other often, but made the most of it when we did. Fortunately, our joint love of travel gave us plenty of opportunities to meet up, explore the world, and explore our friendship. After 5 years of living apart, we were finally able to move together and live in New York, where our relationship has grown and prospered. And now we have both the desire and the legal status to marry.
Marriage is a great commitment, even more so given how we in this country have both fought for and nurtured our freedom to marry. In lieu of any gifts directly to us, we ask rather that you consider making a tax-deductible donation to an organization particularly close to our hearts.
Marriage Equality USA is a volunteer organization that has played a vital role in helping achieve the freedom to marry in New York, California, and in the District of Columbia and sixteen other states (and growing!). MEUSA is uniquely engaged in helping same-sex couples like us be our own best advocates for equality, share our own stories about what marriage means, and change hearts and minds through direct personal engagement.
Thank you for helping to make that possible with your donation to Marriage Equality USA.
