Poker Players Unite Against Tay-Sachs Disease
Poker Players Unite Against Tay-Sachs Disease started after a dear friend of mine lost her young nephew to Tay-Sachs disease at the end of January 2010. I wanted to help out a good cause, and decided that my poker background would give me a way to do just that. I am working closely with the National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association, Inc. and one of their local chapters here in Pennslyvania. My mission is to raise awareness to this progressive neurological genetic disorder, and to also raise money by holding poker events both live and online. I hope to watch these grow from local events to national events that attract thousands of people year after year.
Update:
The Pokerstars event went ok. I was able to cash for $30 in the event, but will also be donating $100 on top of that. I also won a last longer prop bet with a friend, and he will be donating $25. I am just waiting for a check from Pokerstars to come so I can make the donations! From this one event we will have raised $435!
On Sunday, June 13th 2010, Absolute Poker/ Ultimate Bet held our 2nd Sunday Charity Event with all proceeds and a 100% match from the sites going to the National Tay-Sach's & Allied Diseases Association, Inc. The event drew 284 people including 5 sponsored pro's, and I am proud to say that it raised $2840! With the match from the sites and also a $10 donation, we raised $5690!
B0b5bob was the winner of the event, and he also collected the bounty for knocking out Joe Sebok! Congrats to him!
As for me, I started off very strong early building my stack up to just under $5k, but wasn't able to pick up any ends towards the end, and busted out in 69th place. It was so much fun, and it seemed that everyone was enjoying themselves as I jumped from table to table, talking with everyone.
Thank you everyone who played, and helped set this up!
TBA: I will be looking for another chance to set up another tourney either live or online......check back for updates or details!
