Hello

I’m taking part in the 2012 Chicago Marathon to raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, MD.  The race is on Sunday, October 7, 2012, and anyone and everyone is welcome to be part of my cheering group or assist in other ways.

I have had a long affiliation with Habitat for Humanity International as well as various Habitat affiliates around the country. Locally, I have become involved with the affiliate in Montgomery County, MD, and have been trying to find ways to give even more of my time.

On Saturdays that I am in town, I am on one of the construction sites fixing issues, doing finish work, leading volunteers, surveying the property for safety, and more. I have been seen volunteering in the Habitat ReStore, shoveling snow in front of the construction site, and at the Habitat office in various meetings.

Habitat for Humanity if a very meaningful organization to me, and getting involved with the affiliate in Montgomery County has been a blessing. It is about the hard work and effort put in. It is about the wonderful staff who work tirelessly and enjoy their job. It is about the future homeowners who tell incredible stories. It is about the bonding of the volunteers and their experience. It is about the knowledge gained in learning new skills. It is about grabbing someone's hand and working together as a team. It is about us...taking a step...to build simple, decent, affordable housing and eradicate poverty housing.
