I was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy in March of 2002. Eight years and several treatment methods later, I have been blessed enough to be able to attend college.

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is a chronic pain disorder that is based in the nervous system. Sometimes it takes months or years for people to be diagnosed because of the lack of awareness of this condition. The sooner a person is diagnosed and treated the better the outcome is. The treatments for RSD are considered experimental since each and every RSD patient responds to every treatment differently. 

I was thankfully diagnosed within 7 weeks of RSD setting in. My Dr. believes that my RSD shouldnt progress any further than it has but that doesnt mean that I dont have my everyday struggles. I still have to be extremly careful that I dont get hurt and if I do, I have to let my body heal longer that those who dont have RSD. I had a Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) implanted in December of 2007. Thanks to my SCS I am able to attend college and fight against a pain disorder that I once thought would control my life.

RSDSA is a wonderful orginization and I fully believe with their help more awareness of this condition will come about and a cure will be found. RSDSA has helped me make friendships with others who have RSD. This great orginization has also helpes keeps RSDer's and their families informed of new reaserch projects, news stories of RSD, and breakthroughs in treating RSD. Please help support this great orginization.

I am excited to be able to attend the walk this year. In 2007 I wasn't able to walk the full two miles which is the course for those who have RSD. I am looking forward to walking across the finish line this year. Even though you wont be personally attending with my mom and I, each and everyone of you will be attending in spirit. Thanks for the support all these years!
