Among the most vulnerable in Palestinian society are the children - and in particular, refugee children. No matter the politics of the region, children deserve security, love, support, and the opportunity for play and fun. UNRWA provides significant support for Palestinian refugees and this first 2012 Gaza Summer Games Solidarity Walk/Run aims to raise money to provide the children of Gaza with their nutritional and physiological needs as well as some well needed fun over the summer months. Help me help them! 

An update from the organizers:

You may have heard that, due to a lack of funding, UNRWA will not be able to hold a large-scale Gaza Summer Games program this year. While this is unexpected and unfortunate news, we want you to know that UNRWA is still working tirelessly to support the refugee children of Gaza this summer and beyond. With that, we will underscore these efforts by continuing to move forward with our 5K event.

Funds raised through the Gaza Summer Games Solidarity 5K will now be used for UNRWA’s ongoing summer youth activities to provide similar services to those of the Summer Games. These activities include support for children with disabilities and children suffering from PTSD and other psychosocial problems brought on by the extraordinarily difficult circumstances under which these children live.
