I began my teaching career at Naragansett Elementary School. I was student teaching in a third grade classroom and was so excited to meet a young teacher named Andrea. We instantly became great friends and it was so nice to have her at school. We ended up both living minutes apart from eachother in Charlestown, RI. The best beach town there is! We spent many after school days together- walking, talking, cooking, and just hanging out. In May 2002, I received a phone call from a colleague, a call I will never forget. She explained to me that Andrea had been killed by a drunk driver. Her life cut way too short at the age of 24. Words can't express how I felt and how I still feel. I knew her for such a short time but had so many memories with her.
This walk-a-thon is an event held on Andrea's birthday to honor her and our foundation. I hope you will read more about the foundation and how we keep Andrea's dream and life going. This year will be the 11th annual walk!
