SpokenVizions's Lupus Fundraising Page
Back in July of 1993, my mother (Gloria H. Boykin) was rushed to the hospital. Her body became very swollen and she could not remember anything. She could not speak. Prior to going into the hospital, my mother told me she had cancer. But the doctors told me that there wasn't a trace of cancer in her. That is when I was introduced to Lupus. My mother spent 7 weeks in the hospital and stayed there until she passed away on September 7th, 1993. I was devastated.
I told myself that I would never want anyone to find out about Lupus the way that I did. So I started doing fundraisers and programs to educate people on Lupus. In 1998, I released a CD project called Project L.I.F.E. (learning information for existence). It was a spoken word, jazz, hip hop and R&B project. The Missouri Chapter of the Lupus Foundation graciously funded the project as we moved nearly 1000 CDs with 100% of the proceeds going to the foundation. We also produced a lupus foundation benefit concert in 1999 raising $690.00 for the foundation.
Now in 2008, we are at it again. WE want to raise money to assist with research and programs to help increase awareness about Lupus.
