Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page.
Please help Golden Gate Basset Rescue by donating whatever small amount you can. This is a cause that Mark and I feel strongly about, and to which we devote many hours of our time (and miles on our cars).
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Since mid-December 2009, GGBR has rescued more than 80 basset hounds, beginning with the intake of 61 bassets on December 18 from a breeding kennel that was going out of business. The sagging economy has hit home- and pet-owners hard, as well, and more and more dogs are ending up in shelters, or surrendered to Basset Rescue because of their owners' job loss or home foreclosures. For basset hounds facing a time limit in a shelter, Golden Gate Basset Rescue rescues as many as we possibly can, regardless of age or health. In addition, for the first time since 2005, we have taken in four female bassets who gave birth within only hours or days of being rescued. So, 2010 is shaping up to be a very busy year.
Thanks to the wonderful support of my family, friends and co-workers last year, our dog, 16-year-old Kirby will be "king" of the Basset Hound Waddle (aka City of Novato's Fourth of July Parade) this year. Join us on July 4, 2010 in Novato for our 12th annual Waddle for Rescue.
Kirby's story: Kirby was already an adult (estimated to be 3-5 years old) when he arrived at a Sacramento shelter as an emaciated stray in 1996. He was rescued by a Rio Linda couple who fostered him for two years before Mark and I adopted him in 1998. For us, Kirby was "the start of it all" ; he was our first basset hound and our first rescue, and he inspired us to help other lost or abandoned basset hounds to find loving homes. Since adopting Kirby in 1998, we have adopted 6 senior bassets, and fostered many more, of various ages, for a few days to several months. Kirby takes all those foster dogs in stride. After participating in at least 10 Waddles, this year, he will finally be king.
P.S. If you have room in your home for a foster dog, consider fostering for GGBR, or for your favorite breed rescue. Aside from money, available space in foster homes is one of our greatest limitations. To foster for GGBR, go to www.ggbassetrescue.org and fill out a Foster Application. Thanks!
