Golden Gate Basset Rescue, Inc.

Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page for Golden Gate Basset Rescue.  Mark and I support this organization; we hope you can help.

This is Billy.  Billy joined our family last August (2010).  Billy came into our lives just in time to help fill the void left by the passing of our beloved Kirby and our dear, funny old Gus. We intended to keep Billy only for the weekend and transport him to a foster home, but he fit in so well and was such a charmer that our home was as far as he got!  According to Billy's microchip information, he had been rescued from a shelter at least once before, so ours is probably at least his third home.  Billy's age is unknown; his energy level says he's 5, but his teeth say he's 10.  We're splitting the difference and saying he's 7.  Billy is every bit the mischief maker that he looks in his photo, and he's agile when it comes to getting himself into unlikely places, so he's a hand full, but a very fun guy.  There's never a dull moment with Billy around.

In October, Billy welcomed an adopted brother, Riley, a 10-year-old retired show basset whose owners were divorcing and couldn't keep him.  Billy and Riley currently have a foster brother, Jerry, another senior dog who came from the Stanislaus County shelter, filthy, obese, with a large bleeding tumor on his back and very long nails.  Jerry's tumor has been removed, he's had a bath and his nails are cut and he's already lost 5 pounds and is feeling great!  That's him in the video playing with a 1-year-old puppy.  Jerry is the black one.  He's ready for his forever home.

Rescuing dogs like Billy, Riley and Jerry is very rewarding, but it is very expensive.  Golden Gate Basset Rescue rescues dogs of all ages, from puppies to seniors.  Besides surgeries like Jerry's, GGBR recently had a couple of young dogs who needed very expensive and complicated orthopedic surgery to correct severely crooked, painful legs.  Add to that the dogs needing treatment for heartworm, dentistry, routine spays, neuters, microchipping and vaccinations.  None of that comes cheaply.  Without rescue organizations like Golden Gate Basset Rescue, older dogs like Billy, Riley and Jerry would very likely face an early death.  The young dogs with orthopedic issues, as well, probably owe their lives to GGBR, not to mention many years of pain free walking!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts for Golden Gate Basset Rescue.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
