AFSP Official Charity of 2008 LA Marathon
Dear Friends,
Last year, Ed Dempsey (Josh's friend from Kindergarten) and I, Frank Korkowski finished the LA Marathon in memory of my son Joshua who died by suicide in 2003.
This year, Ed and I are running seperate marathons. Frank has already completed the Los Angeles Marathon on March 2, whereas Ed is about to pound the streets of San Francisco on August 3,2008.
Each step taken in this 26.2 mile event is to raise public awareness of the suicide problem we face with staggering statistics of 1 "attempt" every minute, 1 "death" every 16 minutes in the USA. Each step taken is to raise funds to support AFSP in their work to inform and educate the public about depression & suicide, to support research projects which help further the understanding and treatment of depression and the prevention of suicide. AFSP provides support for survivors like myself, my wife Marsha and daughter Tessa and close friends like Ed ...to help handle the loss of a loved one, a friend, or an employee through suicide. AFSP this year is conducting training sessions for "first responder" and "support group facilitator" work to further help survivors. Informative videos on suicide awareness and prevention for medical practitioners and high school students are being released for the public.
Visit AFSP website afsp.org for latest information about 2008 Community Walks throughout the USA or informative news, latest developments and contacts in your area.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. However, if you prefer donating by check, please make it out to AFSP / Greater LA Division and mail it to Korkowski's 1360 Beechwood Drive, Brea, Ca 92821 or to Ed Dempsey 415 East Cedar Ave. Burbank, Ca 91501
This website will remain open until the August 24,2008.
Many thanks for your support.
Ed Dempsey and Frank, Marsha & Tessa Korkowski
