UPDATE, May 4th: This website will remain open until July 6, 2007 for those who still intend to make a donation.
UPDATE, March 5th: Ed Dempsey and I once again completed together the 2007 LA Marathon on Sunday March 4th in memory of my son Joshua who died of suicide in 2003. Frank completed in 7.5 hrs and Ed 7 hrs. We met and talked with several runners and shared stories as to the purpose behind running the Marathon...interesting stories, interesting people...a true testimony to the human spirit.
During this event, each step we took raised public awareness of the suicide problem we face with staggering statistics of 1 "attempt" every minute, 1 "death" every 16 minutes in the USA
. Each step we took raised funds to support AFSP in their work to inform and educate the public about depression & suicide, to support research projects which help further the understanding and treatment of depression and the prevention of suicide. AFSP provides support for survivors like myself, my wife Marsha and daughter Tessa, and Josh's close friend from first grade Ed to help deal with the loss of a loved one, a friend, or an employee who died by suicide.
Many thanks for your support -- and kindly forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate to AFSP.
Marsha, Tessa and Christy (Tessa's friend) cheered us on at the 26th mile mark and gave us the encouragement to round the corner and finish the 26.2 mile course.
On Saturday, March 3rd, AFSP had an information booth (#1103) at LA Convention Center from noon till 3pm to distribute literature, talk with folks and to hand out "in memory of " running bibs for runners to wear on the back during the Sunday race. Several runners took bibs and printed the names of those they know who have died of suicide; others took several current pieces of literature provided by AFSP; others simply wanted to talk.

Sincerely,
Korkowski's...Frank, Marsha, Tessa; and Ed
