Hey guys , I just finished running the Boston Marathon, on April 20th, for an organization that I am volunteering with, called Horizons for Homeless Children. It was the hardest thing I have done, but I'm already looking into doing the Chicago Marathon...haha
But, I still need your help! I am still going for my goal of $5,000 and I've got till May 20th to reach it! Donate if you can, or let your friends and family know about this page! Ask them to donate atleast $5 - $10 - it's all going to a great cause - Horizons for Homeless Children.
My fundraising goal for the day of the marathon was $5000. Sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but each dollar that is donated will be going towards providing homeless children with early education opportunities and a chance to play with other kids, so they can learn and grow. While the kids are receiving care, their parents are given tools to better sustain themselves socially, economically and academically. It’s pretty much a win-win for the community and the families.
To put some things in perspective for you:
$500
The amount that it costs for a Horizons for Homeless Children's Staff member to visit Congress to speak on behalf of homeless children and their families.
$250
The amount it costs to send an entire Horizons for Homeless Children preschool class on a field trip.
$100
The amount it costs to provide 17lbs of Legos, 37lbs of Play-doh, or 30lbs of puzzles for Playspace programs. (where I volunteer)
$50
The amount it costs to provide art supplies for one classroom for one month.
$26.20
One dollar for every mile of the marathon.
