I am very blessed to come from a loving and supportive family. I count my blessings daily and am completely aware that not everyone is as fortunate. In gratitude to God and to my parents who showed me the way, I would like to "pay it forward" by raising money for Covenant House, a most worthy Cause that gives shelter, support and help to homeless youth.
In an effort to raise money, I will be competing in an Ironman Triathlon on August 11, 2012. A competitor must complete a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 miles on the bike, and run a full marathon, 26.2 miles for a total of 140.6 miles completed in 17 hours or less. I have completed one Ironman Race in Lake Placid in 2008... in just over 12 and a half hours. Three of my siblings have also completed Ironman Distance Races in the past.
Ever since I was a boy, I remember feeding the homeless, collecting food, and visiting various charities including Covenant House. I was deeply impressed as a young person visiting this Charitable institution. So impressed... that this year I want to compete in an Ironman during the hottest month in NYC.
Please consider giving what you can. Please feel free to donate on this secure site. Every gift will make a difference in the life of some young person who finds themselves without shelter or support....for not every kid was as fortunate as me.
Peace,
Fr. George Stewart
