WE DID IT!
The weekend of April 24, 2010 Bill and I completed our events! We participated in the Memorial Herman Ironman 70.3 Texas Triathlon Festival in Galveston, TX. Bill did the Sprint Duathlon (12 mile bike, 3 mile run) [the swim was cancelled due to bad weather] and I did the Ironman70.3 (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run).
Bill's time: 1 hour 46 minutes. Gabrielle's time: 7 hours 28 minutes
Bill and I traveled to Africa and Israel to visit programs COCI supports, and we were amazed by the impact these programs have made. We saw firsthand how we can help children not only across the globe but at home too.
We know our efforts can and will make the difference in the lives of many children, like Shey from Houston. Shey’s father has been incarcerated for most of her life. For years she would cut and burn herself in an effort to deal with her pain. It is through the physical, emotional and educational support that Shey has received at our No More Victims program that she has beaten the odds and has graduated from High School and is currently enrolled in College. Shey says that she owes her existence to our program and is committed to “stopping the madness”. Shey is clear that “prison is not an option” for her.
We can help children like Ido and Mohammed from Israel who despite years of conflict amongst their communities they have become the best of friends through our Bridge to Peace program and now look forward to their weekly educational sessions and soccer games.
