Garrett is 7 years old, and he has been riding with SpiritHorse for 5 years - since he was 2 ½ years old to address problems with sensorimotor processing and low muscle tone. He had trouble with coordinating movements to maintain balance, to learn related gross and fine motor skills, and to swallow without aspirating. Aided by the dedication and hard work of Charles Fletcher and his wonderful team of instructors and ponies, Garrett has made tremendous progress, consuming regular fluids, making great grades, demonstrating exceptional creative writing skills, and participating in age-appropriate physical activities (i.e., baseball, swimming, rock-climbing, etc.). Despite showing great talent and compassion, Garrett’s struggles have at times, challenged his self-confidence. His work with Mr. Fletcher, his capable instructors, and the patient ponies have been instrumental in strengthening Garrett’s self-concept, and we are eternally grateful. SpiritHorse is a wonderful program, and it has been a tremendous blessing to receive such love and compassion from so many. Charles Fletcher, his instructors, all of the volunteers, and the wonderful horses are truly angels among us! We hope you will consider supporting them with your time and/or financial contributions.

Garrett is now taking the next step in making great strides…he is riding in the SpiritHorse Ride for Strides 2008 Achiever’s Ride, which is a pre-designed pattern and games!  The SpiritHorse Ride for Strides is a ride-a-thon, which works just like a walk-a-thon, but on horses to raise money for SpiritHorse Therapeutic Center at the LBJ Grasslands in Decatur, TX on October 11, 2008!  Please visit www.rideforstrides.org for more information on this event!
