Can You Spare a Buck to Change Their Luck?
Great Dane Rescue of the Commonwealth is a nonprofit, 501c3, breed-specific rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless Great Danes. We are based in the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach area of Virginia. Over the last 3-1/2 years, we have been able to successfully place over 50 Great Danes into their new loving forever homes.
GDROC is in great need of funding to continue caring for these magnificent Danes. We receive calls weekly from people requesting we take their danes. In most cases, the Dane has not been spayed or neutered and we have to bear that cost. The low-cost spay/neuter places will not accept Great Danes due to the weight of the dogs. So, this is quite costly for us.
Giant dogs often mean giant medical bills. Bloat and torsion are prevalent among great danes and this emergency, along with surgery to correct it, can cost upwards of $2500. So, as you can see, having just one of our foster Danes bloat takes a lot of our funding resources. This happened to us in November 2008. One of our male fosters bloated and had to be rushed to the emergency vet hospital. He had also torsioned and underwent surgery. Luckily, he survived! He has now been adopted into a loving family.
Great Danes are a magnificent breed. While the first thing that catches the eye is their giant size, their personality is like no other. Danes can be goofy, gentle, playful, and above all love their families immensely!
Can you spare a Dollar to save a Dane ? If 1000 people each donated 1.00, we would have enough money to spay/neuter and vaccinate a couple of Great Danes. But if 1000 people each donated 5.00 or more, we could help save a lot more Great Danes!
