Genevieve Munn's Fundraising Page
First and foremost, thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I have never run anything above 7 miles and certainly never a half-marathon...so I thought to myself why not dedicate my first BIG race to something that means A LOT to me.
Since I was 12 years old I have suffered from Anorexia and Bulimia. While I am now in recovery, it has probably been one of the largest things to impact my life and continues to on a daily basis. I am lucky to have very little health issues from the extended period of my illness but I still carry the emotional scars and the distorted views of my body and food.
Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness and touch so many people in various ways. Yet treatment for them is difficult and the relapse rate is high. They are still viewed as a "choice" instead of an mental illness and addiction. No one would choose to live in such a miserable way, trust me.
My recovery, like a race, has been a marathon, not a sprint. It has had hills, downpours of rain, mud, aches and pains. I am sure I will encounter all of these in my training. But with every hill I run up (and oh will I be running some hills...the Charlottesville half is QUITE hilly) I will be doing with a purpose, to complete the 13.1 miles and raise money for a charity I care about.
Help me raise 1000 dollars to help eliminate eating disorders and promote positive body image!!!
