Welcome to the fundraising page of Ayala Foundation USA-GILAS and the NY-NJ-PA Friends of Asingan, Inc.. Our aim is to raise $4,500 so we can provide a computer lab, internet connectivity and teacher training for a public high school in Asingan, Pangasinan.
Why GILAS?
GILAS (Gearing Up Internet Literacy & Access for Students) is a multi-sectoral initiative headed by the Ayala Foundation that aims to provide Internet Access and basic Internet literacy programs to all 6,300+public high schools in the Philippines. 90% of Filipinos are in the public school system, yet less than 30% of these schools have Internet access, and most don't even have computers. That number is 100% for Singapore, Taiwan and the other Asian dragons. Internet literacy is arguably the most cost-effective investment we can make in our educational system. Filipino youth are being left behind by their computer and Internet literate peers from other countries. Through GILAS, we are helping to build an infrastructure that will have long-term impacts on the competitiveness of our students. Go to http://www.gilas-usa.org for more information.
Why This Public High School?
GILAS has helped several schools get connected to the digital world since it’s inception in 2005. GILAS has committed to help TOBOY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL in Asingan, Pangasinan build a computer lab and get connected to the internet.
The students, teachers and computer coordinators at Toboy, despite their meager computer resources are passionate about computer literacy and have expressed their excitement in getting access to the internet. The local government in Asingan has also committed to matching the funds raised in this campaign! We are also getting extra help from Asingans from the and .
