The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania (MGA)

Ginny Everard's Fundraising Page

Hi,

My name is Ginny and I am the Treatment Center Coordintor for the Myasthenia Gravis Association of W. PA .  Here I am with my friend Donna who has Myasthenia Gravis (MG).

Myasthenia Gravis is a disorder that is characterized by abnormal weakness of the voluntary muscles (those controlled by will).  The weakness increases with activity and decreases with rest.  Think about it for a moment .... chewing, swallowing, playing your favorite sport or just getting ready for work are just a few things we use our voluntary muscles for!

As the Treatment Center Coordinator and registered nurse, I've been touched by so many people with this disorder.  My friend Donna was diagnosed when she was 9.  Her childhood memories are not of riding bikes, and playing ball, but of hospital visits, and her Mom pushing her in a wheelchair.  Every patient in my care has a heart wrenching story.  A patient told me of a promising NBA career being squashed with his diagnosis; a new mother told me of her anguish of not being able to hold her newborn; and a doctor who can no longer meet the needs of his own patients expressed his grief.  I could tell you stories of so many lives being changed forever with the diagnosis of MG.

So, what's up with the MG - A - THON?  Well, because of the grave muscle weakness my patients experience with this condition, many people with MG cannot participate in walks, runs, bike, bowl or any other physically demanding A-THON.  This is in their honor, for June is MG Awareness Month and the challenges that people with MG face every day.

Your donation insures that MGA continues the unique care coordination services, and learning opportunities in the community.  The Treatment and Advocacy Center and Community Education Outreach program are essential services that are provided at NO COST TO THE PATIENTS.

Every dollar makes a difference in the life on someone with MG.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

Another fun way to support my fundraising efforts is to create a fundraising page of your own, on behalf of MGA.  (Make sure your fundraising page in linked to EIN:23-7004401) This is a great personal or family project and an easy way to make a big difference!  And, if you have MG, share your story, too!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to everyone who you think might want to donate too!
