Financial Assistance Program
The Caring Voice Coalition Financial Assistance Program provides financial help to eligible patients. Caring Voice Coalition may pay a portion or all of a patient’s share of cost under the patient’s health insurance plan. A patient can receive financial support through one of our grants programs listed below.
- Insurance premium assistance
- Insurance co-payment assistance
- Medicare prescription drug assistance
Insurance premium assistance: An insurance “premium” is the amount paid, usually on a monthly basis, in order to maintain the coverage. Our insurance premium assistance grants are designed for situations when a patient has access to comprehensive health insurance coverage but does not have enough personal income to pay the premium required to maintain the coverage.
Insurance co-payment assistance: A health insurance “co-payment” is an amount left behind, after the insurance has paid, which the patient is usually required to pay to the medical provider. In the case of prescription medication therapies, the co-payment usually must be paid to the pharmacy which dispensed or distributed the medication. Our insurance co-payment assistance grant is designed for situations when a patient is able to afford his or her health insurance premium but lacks the personal income to pay their co-payment responsibility..
Medicare prescription drug assistance: The federal Medicare program includes many different parts which are available in different forms and which provide varying degrees of coverage for different health care costs, including many prescription medications. While Medicare’s coverage is certainly beneficial, it often leaves behind amounts that the patient must pay. These co-payments can often be very costly. Our Medicare prescription drug assistance grant is designed for situations when a patient does not have enough personal income to pay those amounts.
Patient Support Program
We understand that it can be hard to cope with a chronic illness. You may experience fear, confusion, frustration, or anger. These emotions can prevent you from making the best decisions for your physical well-being. This is why we have a Patient Support Program.
Our Patient Support Case Managers will identify public and private programs and services that may be of benefit to you. Our goal is to connect patients and their loved ones with services that will make life a little easier–emotionally, socially, and financially.
Whether you are newly diagnosed with a chronic illness or were diagnosed years ago, our case managers are ready to help. Common areas of assistance include:
- Providing educational materials that explain the patient’s disease and how it develops;
- Referring patients to support programs and services designed for people using a particular medication or drug therapy;
- Identifying peer support groups and other programs which may provide emotional support.
Insurance Education and Counseling Program
Caring Voice Coalition established its Insurance Education and Counseling Program ("IEC") program for two reasons:
- Because we know that adequate health insurance coverage is essential for persons with chronic illnesses; and
- Because we know that, for those with health insurance, coverage issues can be complex and difficult to resolve.
That is why we provide specialized insurance assistance and guidance to our patients. Our IEC case managers provide four basic services:
- We can review your current benefits and explain them in an easy-to-understand manner;
- We can help to mediate problems or complaints you may have with your current coverage;
- We can assist you in exploring options for new, continued, or improved coverage; and
- We can provide you with guidance and assistance in applying for Social Security Disability benefits.
