Brend's Kaiser's Fundraising Page to Honor Her Brother
As many of you know in July of 1968 I lost my brother and my hero to the War in Vietnam. I want to honor his memory and the memory of all our fallen heroes by helping raise money to build a Fisher House and to provide scholarships for the children of our wounded and for the children of our fallen.
It was Vietnam and more than 58,000 Americans fell valiantly attempting to secure freedom for the people of South Vietnam. Cpl, George Allen Alford, Jr., U.S.M.C., was one of them and he was like so many who came before him and after him as he served with distinction giving his life in the cause of freedom on 31 July 1968 in An Hoa Province while serving with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. It was Operation Mameluke and the enemy force was large and would not engage without first having overwhelming numbers and tactical advantage. Officers and enlisted NCOs fell and the chain of command was severely tested but the Marines did what they always do: they fought on and pushed a numerically superior force into retreat. Cpl. Alford was like so many Marines who served then as now: he fell and no one but his family and his fellow Marines heard him fall. The country did not hear and his family, like thousands of other families of soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines, were left alone to grieve. This page is in honor of Cpl. George Allen Alford, Jr., who represents the thousands who fell in Vietnam at a time when their country refused to hear them fall in defense of freedom.
