Welcome to the LA Sister to Sister Foundation fundraising site, in loving memory of our dear friend, Valerie Brooks who just passed away on Feb 4, 2009. Valerie, standing on the right in the photo, was an extraordinary friend, mother, grandmother, volunteer and Women’s Heart Health advocate. She suffered from Heart Disease and gave countless hours to the Sister to Sister Foundation. When hit hard financially, she stopped taking one of her heart medications. She dismissed her flu-like symptoms, and did not seek the immediate medical attention which could have saved her life. Just 2 weeks before she died she was diagnosed with aggressive t-cell lymphoma. Her weakened heart could not withstand the chemotherapy. She died suddenly, as do so many women with Heart Disease.
Please, in Valerie’s memory and on behalf of so many women in Los Angeles who put others before themselves, help us prevent the #1 killer in women: Heart Disease. One Cardiac screening costs $35 , $350 for 10, and any amount will help save a woman’s life. Our goal is to provide at least 700 free cardiac screenings at our LA Heart Health Fair on May 7th, 2009.
