Greg Wellman's 10K Swim for UMDF
Greg Wellman's 10K Swim for UMDF
On Saturday, October 9, I plan to swim 10 km - the swimmer's marathon - in honor of Adam and Braeden Rogers. The Rogers boys are friends of the family, and they both have mitochondrial disease. Their dad, Allen, inspired me with a 100-mile fundraising bicycle ride last year, and I'm taking his success as my challenge.
I'll swim my 10k as part of the inaugural Swim for Them. The pool is 25 yards in length, meaning it will take 438 lengths to reach 10,950 yards - just over 10 kilometers. Will I finish? We'll see! Training over the coming months will obviously be key. If you're interested, you can follow my training progress over on my blog.
The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation exists to build research funds and public awareness around mitochondrial disorders. It's a wonderful organization with a worthy cause. However, as far as I'm concerned, this swim is all about Adam and Braeden. They are fantastic friends to my own children, and I want them to see how their dad can inspire someone else they know to be just a little nuts, all in their honor. As much as I hope you'll support UMDF, it's them you're really standing behind.
Donating through FirstGiving is simple, secure, and tax-deductible. Thanks so much for your support!
Oh, and prayers for perseverance through training are always appreciated! :-)
