I am writing to let you know about an important community project in
Boston, and to ask for your sponsorship as I race in the Head of the Charles Regatta to raise funds for Community Rowing’s “BOATHOUSE FOR ALL."
CRI was founded in 1985, by a group of Olympic rowers who wanted to secure public access to the sport of rowing in Boston. Today, CRI is the largest and most successful community-access rowing program in the country.
CRI’s “non-traditional” programs include G-ROW BOSTON, an after school rowing program for more than 200 girls enrolled in the Boston Public Schools, partnerships with the
Perkins
School for the Blind and Newton Special Athletes, and summer outreach programs for low-income youth with special needs. Last year over 600 people were reached through these programs.
For the last 20 years, CRI used a riverside ice rink as its summer boathouse. The rink was recently privatized and will no longer be available to CRI - jeopardizing CRI's future.
I believe it is vital that CRI’s new boathouse gets built. Should we not be successful, public rowing on the Charles will cease to exist.
A sponsorship from you will go directly to the campaign to build CRI’s new boathouse. As of today’s date CRI has raised $10.3 million towards its $15.0 million goal for the new boathouse. Construction is underway and new donations are critically important.
Please consider supporting this effort. Every dollar helps. Even a modest contribution gets CRI closer to its goal.
Thank you very much.
