I am so thankful and excited that you are visiting my fundraising page!
I began smoking when I was fifteen years old as a result of a bet proposed by my best friend’s mom. Nine years later, I quite smoking for two years while I gave birth to my sons. After I stopped breastfeeding, there I was again upholding my end of the bet. After many unsuccessful attempts at quitting, I decided that my fortieth birthday was going to be the last of this unhealthy habit. I struggled for a year but it was finally running regularly that helped me abstain from smoking. It started with getting in shape for a 5K, then enjoying how my body was responding to the challenge. My hope is that by running I am giving my lungs a good chance for recovery.
This is why Health Connections of the Upper Valley, Inc. resonates with me. Monies raised during this half-marathon fundraiser go directly to tobacco use prevention and cessation programs. People that might not have the financial or social resources and support needed to quite have an organization they can turn to for help.
Last year Health Connections offered The Fresh Start Quite Program in seven different community based organizations working with low-income families and individuals.
Assisted 38 adults in their efforts to quit smoking. Worked with Hartford teens and Hartford Select Board to establish tobacco free parks and recreation areas in Hartford, VT. Educated more than 500 youth and their parents about the dangers of tobacco and second-hand smoke through tobacco prevention outreach programs.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
