Dear Friends,
The Nothing can is a symbol of what too many of our neighbors have on their table each day: nothing. But, you can help make sure no one goes hungry.
- Each month there are more than 50,000 Rhode Islanders seeking food assistance through the Food Bank's network of emergency food programs.
- A USDA report on food insecurity shows that hunger in Rhode Island now affects 1 out of 8 households.
- In Rhode Island, 41% of client households have such limited income that they must choose between paying for food and paying their rent while 43% of clients choose between paying for food and paying for utilities.
-
Nearly 1 out of every 3 people served is a child under the age of 18.
-
76% of all households served by the Food Bank’s network live below the Federal Poverty Level or less than $22,050 a year for a family of four.
-
According to the most recent U.S. Census survey, 17.5% of Rhode Island's children, 1 out of every 6, are living in poverty.
-
Just under 10,000 Rhode Island seniors, 9.3% of the state’s population, live in poverty. (Source: Poverty Institute)
