Guy Zuccarello's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Sixteen years ago I experienced a life-altering event when I lost the majority of my eyesight. I suddenly had to learn very different ways of accomplishing the most basic of tasks. I had to examine alternative means of traveling, reading, and managing information. I now had to devote a tremendous amount of energy toward the successful completion of tasks that I had taken for granted.
With my priorities now focused on re-learning to function and continuing my education with the hopes of living a rewarding life with and adjusting to my disability, recreational activities became an afterthought. Among the myriad losses that my blindness caused, losing the ability to be physically active was one of the more difficult ones to cope with. Early on in the process of my adjustment to living with vision loss, I pretty much resigned myself to living a more sedentary lifestyle.
My mindset was irrevocably changed in 2001 when I discovered the Association of Blind Citizens (ABC) and the Boston Renegades. Prior to my vision loss I greatly enjoyed playing baseball and other sports and was thrilled to discover the existence of an outlet for my passion. I was amazed to learn of the sport of beep baseball, a modified version of baseball adapted to enable individuals who are blind or visually impaired to participate and play ball.
Please check out ABC's web site and particularly the Renegades home page to learn more about the sport of beep baseball. I can't express how much the sport has meant to me. Discovering that I could compete in a team sport that I loved did wonders for my attitude towards my disability in general and has given me greater confidence to take on other challenges that I might have previously considered impossible given my lack of sight.
Vision loss can often be isolating, but being a part of the Renegades family has provided me with a highly rewarding social network that might not have been available to me otherwise. I truly treasure the feeling of camaraderie and fellowship that being part of a team and working towards a common goal provides. All of this would not be possible without ABC's support of the Renegades.
Our team has made tremendous strides over the years and last year marked another winning season with a record of 8 wins and 6 losses. It was our third straight season with a winning record. We are very much looking forward to building on our successes and hope to travel to the 2010 World Series in Rochester, Minnesota.
Unfortunately, the traveling costs can be quite prohibitive and as we kick-off our season, it is necessary for us to solicit funds to enable us to travel to the World Series as well as other regional tournaments and meet the challenges before us. I sincerely hope you will consider sponsoring a team that has made all of its players winners on so many levels and in so many different ways.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
