Good news: the private vet can save Andrew's broken leg!

Dharma Rescue for Cats and Dogs stepped up to save this boy, even though they have many physical challenged dogs. www.dharmarescue.org

*********UPDATE *******

October 24, 2009:  Vet removed Andrew's cast off today. This is a great improvement. The vet still wants Andrew take it easy for a while till next appointment. He is one lucky dog, because all of YOU who were networking, donating to his surgery. Without YOU all, he would be a dead dog at shelter.

October 10, 2009: "Andrew went for his first appointment since surgery to have his leg looked at. He had his bandages changed and they said he needs to come back in 2 weeks, and maybe he may get the bandages off permanently. That is good because his estimated time to be healed and bandages removed was middle of Nov. So he seems to be progressing faster."

11:45 PM - 9/28/09 Foster said:  "Andrew  is doing well after surgery. He walks around very well in his bandage/ cast. He is a very sweet boy and has good manners. Even though he was mauled by another dog he is friendly and not afraid of the other dogs, big and small. He has started to hold his tail up and wag it alot.

He will be wearing a bandage/cast for a couple months while having follow up check ups."

4:15 PM - 9/28/09 - Andrew is a sweet boy (his foster said). However Andrew is on multiple medication including pain medication, so his true personality is not completely known yet. He has multiple appointments with the orthopedic surgeon  through November. That means he won't be ready to be adopted any time soon.

4:00 PM - 9/27/09 - Andrew was released from  the vet  hospital.  Dharma Rescue is taking home for rehabilitation & will send picture and his first night at home sonn. They will need to watch him carefully for complication such as infection.

1:30 PM - 9/27/09 - The vet bill will be  $2,760 at check out later today 9/27/09. We are almost there with fund raising. Please give!

08:30 AM - Sunday 9/27/09 - Andrew had surgery on Saturday 9/26/09 + neutered. He did fine. In order to save his broken leg from amputation, the excellent orthopedic surgeon had to insert a metal plate in Andrew's leg. It's a major relief, because any major surgery of this nature may have un-expected complication.

If everything goes well,  Andrew will be checked out later today & the rehabilitation will begin at Dharma Rescue for Cats and Dogs. The rescue is getting ready to give this boy a speedy recovery at HOME( not at  kennel nor at boarding places).

If you have made a pledge to donate $$$ toward Andrew's expense, and have direct access  to vet office, please go in and pay asap at this vet practice BEFORE Dharma Rescue checks him out. Thank you.

The description from the shelter (below) of  " Scrappy - now Andrew" was off beside the broken leg. Perhaps, they got the description from the previous owner who dumped the dog. I think there is more to the story.

The dog has bear claws on his face & other places. If I just met this dog without knowing its story, I would say this dog had been dragged on some rough surface, because how else one could explain
the deep road burn on his front torso and others! That must hurt a lot. The dog is very dirty - it must be an outside dog.

Original Shelter plea: "A1062086 -- Scrappy, an adorable 1 year old male poodle who was abandoned by his owner after it was mauled by their other dog. Scrappy is happy and active and his wounds have healed completely with lots of TLC and medical care, but he also has a fractured left front leg that will likely need orthopedic surgery or an amputation.

My name is Scrappy and I am an unaltered male, white Poodle -Miniature mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 year and 6 months old."

Please help Dharma Rescue for Cats and Dogs to pay for "Andrew" expenses. It's a long road to recover for Andrew.

Dharma Rescue for Cats and Dogs will make sure to find a good home for Andrew. They have "take back" policy, which is an extraordinary act among rescue.

Please donate and forward this plea to others.
