Dear Guaranty Bank family of Companies:

Once again the Newby family/Lupus Foundation of WI is humbled and excited that we have been chosen to be a charity event for the Guaranty Bank Jeans Day.  THANK YOU so much!  As you may remember from last year, our now 14 year old (gulp) freshman in high school was diagnosed with Lupus 2 years ago.  For those of you with a teenage daughter you know the pains that come along with that-add to that one with a chronic illness with no medications that treat the illness. So, let's see lets give her a bunch of medications  like steroids and other medications that treat things like malaria to try to help calm the disease while the drug makers try to find SOMETHING that will treat her illness not the side effects of the illness.  

Lupus is an autoimmune disorder-in fact, Snoop Dog's daughter was recently diagnosed too.  Something tells me that Snoop Dog can raise more money that we can but lets give him a run..... :)

Seriously, autoimmune is hard to describe so lets just say this, you go( or you daughter) get your/her ear pierced, and it gets infected, or you catch a cold-guess what?  Your body can't fight off the infection because it is busy trying to kill your kidneys, brain, heart, skin, nerves, or any number of other organs because your system just thinks everything is an infection.   So in this example since your body is fighting your kidney and it  ignores the fact that you have an ear infection-so guess what?  The ear just gets more infected which turns into a full blown body infection that then puts you at risk for pneumonia etc.....

We totally understand that donations are a very personal decision.  We also respect that fund raising decisions are super hard right now for all of us.  Every dollar you donate is a dollar less that you have for you kids but please, try to help out the Lupus Foundation and more importantly the research being done by the Lupus Foundation.  Hopefully a  medication and maybe even a cure is found before my daughter and MANY of your family member s experience any of the horrible things that can result from Lupus.  People ask me all of the time "can Halee die from Lupus" the response is "most people don't die from Lupus they die from the side effects of Lupus"-do you know the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" by the Beatles?  Guess what?  Lucy died from the side effects of Lupus.
