Hannah Hilarides' Fundraising Page
Thanks for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page!
My name is Hannah and I'm sixteen years old. I live in a little town called Lindsay nestled right in the Central Valley. My hobbies are, well, basically trumpet playing and Guitar Hero. I'm a musician and I plan on going to a music conservatory after high school.
I have been going to Bearskin Meadow Camp since I was six years old, so I can safely say that it has been such an impact on my life. I started off with family camp, then kids camp, and now this year is going to be my last year as a camper at Teen Camp.
Bearskin Meadow Camp has introduced me to several spectrums of Diabetes that I would have never found out on my own. First of all, I know for a fact that I'm not the only one. Living with a chronic illness like Diabetes can automatically make you feel isolated. I have met so many amazing campers and counselors alike that I still keep in touch with and make my life all the more spectacular.
Back in middle school, I would question myself almost every day, "Why me?" I used to be embarrassed about having Diabetes. I didn't want to tell any of my friends and in eighth grade I was afraid to check my blood sugar at school for fear that people would be scared of me. I would pity myself and come home after school and just cry. Today, I have a whole different outlook on Diabetes: It makes me unique! When I test my blood in public places and people ask me what I'm doing, it gives me a chance to tell them about being a diabetic. I actually enjoy showing not-so-cool-people-because-they-don't-have-Diabetes how I check my sugar and change my pump site.
I made this page because Bearskin Meadow Camp has truly been the ultimate life experience for me. I want other kids to have the same privilages I did by having the time of their lives at this camp. When you meet people who have the same interests as you AND have Diabetes, well, you can imagine how that would feel for a kid who thinks their alone and living with a disease like this. I am asking you to donate so someone can spend a week or two at the camp that changed my outlook on life.
