Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
From Saturday, August 14th through Saturday, August 20th, I will be participating in the MS Global 2011 cycling fundraiser in support of Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis. I have personally committed to raising a minimum of $5,000, and need your help to reach that goal.
The Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to curing Multiple Sclerosis by determining its causes. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic degradation of the central nervous system that often results in severe disability. While the medical community has known about MS for the past 150 years, the cause is still unknown and there is no known cure. Focused primarily on accelerating the pace of MS breakthroughs, Accelerated Cure Project seeks to remove obstacles to investigating the causes of MS and encourages collaboration between research organizations and clinicians. It is developing a "Cure Map," a systematic plan of research into the causes of MS, and implementing an MS Repository projected to be the world's largest, shared collection of bio-samples ever assembled for use in MS research.
In 1989, I was diagnosed with MS. Now, I ride and I talk and I beg for your money to help cure MS.
Multiple Sclerosis disability is wide ranging and varies from individual to individual. Some common symptoms include to inability to walk, impaired vision or in some cases blindness, cognitive dysfunction, bladder and bowel problems, and extreme fatigue. Serious symptoms often require adaptive devices like wheel chairs or electric scooters. Unfortunately, no one knows what causes Multiple Sclerosis, there is no known cure for the disease, and treatments are modest at best. Even though the disease is not communicable, the disability of MS impacts day to day living not only the individual but family, friends, co-workers, and many others who know someone with MS.
In the US, there are over 400,000 people with MS. Worldwide an estimated 2 million individuals worldwide have MS. Besides the just the people diagnosed with MS, the effective impact on society is much larger. If just one person with MS, has a support network of 5 people, the social impact is 2 million people in the US alone.
We must cure MS!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
