Harper Gives Back
Harpers first birthday is coming up, New Years Eve to be precise. Harper is alive and healthier than ever thanks to Kosairs Childrens Hospitol. She would love to give back.
Harper was diagnosed through Newborn Screening with a rare genetic metabolic disorder called 'SCADD.' It is believed that 1 in 40,000 children have this disorder.
For more information about SCADD you can visit the following website : http://www.newbornscreening.info/Parents/fattyaciddisorders/SCADD.html
Along with the SCADD, harper was diagnosed with Kidney Reflux, in both kidneys, which makes her more likely to get kidney and urinary tract infections.
Over the last 11 months Harper has been hospitalized over 15 times and had two surgeries to insert a Broviak Catheter into her vein because of the frequent IVs to keep her blood sugars up.
After more complications than 'usual' with the SCADD, Harper was tested for Growth Hormone Deficiency in September. She tested positive. Harper now takes daily Growth Hormone Injections, as well as daily medications to keep her healthy.
Since taking the Growth Hormone, Harper has improved and is a healthy happy, almost 11 month old baby girl.
