DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS

HeartGifts: Artists Supporting Doctors Without Borders

HeartGifts: Artists Supporting Doctors Without Borders

SAVE THE DATE:  SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH

from 6p-9p at SOMArts,

934 Brannan, San Francisco, CA

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your support of Doctors Without Borders. Many of us have long been aware of the work done worldwide by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières to alleviate suffering from epidemics, malnutrition, natural disasters, armed conflict, and exclusion from medical care. Many of us have also yearned to somehow contribute to their compassionate work. We are delighted to announce HeartGifts, a fundraiser to be held at SOMArts, 934 Brannan, San Francisco, on 24 September 2011, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., featuring Artists Supporting Doctors Without Borders. This fundraising event will include beverages, hors d'oeuvres, live music provided by the Scirocco Jazz Trio featuring Stuart Rabinowitsch on piano, Breck Diebel on base, and Barbara Steed on sax and flute. If you like, dress up!  (Directions to SOMArts)

Our goal is to raise $50,000 for Doctors Without Borders, some through an art show and auction and the remainder through direct donation and sponsorship. Eighty concerned artists have generously agreed to donate one of their works to be auctioned.  We are fortunate that Vivian Reyes, MD, who served with Doctors Without Borders in Nigeria, will make a brief presentation of her work with Doctors Without Borders.

We’re very excited about the upcoming auction, and we hope you’ll be there with us celebrating Doctors Without Borders and bidding on the fabulous artwork. Here is a link to the HeartGifts website.  And to view all the wonderful art to be auctioned, please visit our Facebook page.

This is what your generosity will help Doctors Without Borders accomplish:

• $100 can purchase 4 insecticide treated mosquito nets to protect people living in malaria endemic regions.
• $210 can purchase enough vaccine to inoculate 102 people aged 6 months to 15 years old against measles, which kills half a million children a year.
• $300 can purchase equipment to chlorinate enough water to provide 1,330 people with 20 gallons of clean water per day for 30 days.
• $500 can purchase treatment for five people with tuberculosis for six months.
• $1000 can purchase sustainable shelter for four displaced families.

Admission by voluntary donations. Donations gladly accepted at the door.

Once again our goal is to raise $50,000. We can do it with your help. Please consider making a generous donation now. Then come to the art show and auction to support Doctors Without Borders on 24 September 2011, 6-9pm, at SOMArts, 934 Brannan, San Francisco, CA.
