On Jan. 12, 2010, Haiti was struck with a magnitude 7 earthquake, the strongest earthquake to hit the region in more than two centuries, killing tens of thousands, rendering hundreds of thousands more homeless.
On Jan 20, a group of very diverse individuals decided to stand as one for a benefit entitled “Hearts for Haiti” in New York City, lead by event organizers Gardy V. Guerrier, Tiza Alejandro, Tony Martinez and Raven Roman with the assistance of the Hearts4Haiti Global Initiative host committee.
In a mere five hours, with slightly more than 800 guests, including NYC Mayor Bloomberg, Miss USA, and Kwame Jackson, we raised 20K! $7K of which was raised during the first 30 minutes. All monies (100%), was donated to the Mayor's - Haiti Relief Fund, with a designation to Doctors without Borders for use with their Haiti earthquake relief work. In addition, there was NO OVERHEAD, all services, location, promotion, equipment, and labor were donated.
Due to an overwhelming turn out of supporters, we actually had to turn away a good number due to capacity issues. This in turn inspired us to create this firstgiving page for all those who were unable, but still wanted to contribute to the Haiti earthquake relief effort.
Due to the monetary and media coverage success, we have created the Hearts4Haiti Global Initiative (H4HGI). Hearts4Haiti Global Initiative is a collective of talented young professionals across the country who are continuously supporting Haiti earthquake relief efforts and celebrating the island country’s unique art, music, and culture, by producing Haiti relief fundraisers in major US cities.
H4HGI donates 100% of the proceeds from their fundraising events to established and vetted relief agencies working on the ground in Haiti. We have raised nearly $40,000 for Haiti’s relief since our founding in January 2010. For more information, visit: www.Hearts4Haitigi.org
